Manila Southwoods Golf Course - Masters Course
The Manila Southwoods Golf Course is for those of you who love a little more challenge in your game. You won’t be disappointed with the Master’s Course at the Manila Southwoods Golf Course. Voted by the Asian PGA as the “Venue of the year” for 1999 and 2000, this course is said to be one of the best courses in the Philippines.
Designed by Jack Nicklaus as one of the two 18 hole championship courses at the Manila Southwood Golf and Country Club, the other being the Legend's Course, the Master’s course is golf architecture in motion.
This is a course surrounded by a remarkable panorama which makes for a memorable day of a golf.
The course has water in play in 15 holes.
Furthermore, the landscape is designed in such a way which allows the golfer to decide how much of the hazard he wishes to challenge or avoid by a simple tweak of the angle of approach to the landing area.
These features are especially evident at the bunkerless Par 4 Hole # 10 of the Manila Southwoods Golf Course.
From tip to tip, the fairway is 429 yards in length. Aim too far to the left, you have the creek which bisects the fairway to tackle with.
Now if you are a long hitter or you tend to slice off the tee, then you have the green side pond to worry about.
This is undoubtedly the hardest hole at the Master’s course.
It’s also reputed to be one of the top 500 holes in the world to try.
For the faint hearted, you need not worry as with all strategic holes, an option to opt-out is available through a split in the fairway just in front of the green allowing a simple shot across the creek.
The Manila Southwoods Golf Course - master’s course is served by its own clubhouse which has a 180 degree view of the grounds.
The usual facilities for a championship course like a Pro Shop, Buggy and Trolley hire, are all available here. There is also a bar and lounge area for the guests.
Locker rooms are also available. You can also get a sauna and a massage here, highly recommended especially after “cooking” for several hours under the sun on the fairways.
The only drawback which I can find about this place, is that you have to know someone who is a member before you can enter the grounds.
I guess the club must have their own reasons for such a rule. The upside is that, if you are fortunate enough to have a friend who is a member, is the cheap green fee. Have a look here, for some great rates and tee times.
