Diving - Hammerhead sharks in the Philippines

HI there,

I am planning on coming diving to Philippines this year in May/June for about 1-2 months, and would really like to try and see hammerhead sharks. Could anyone tell me where in the Philippines you would have the best chances of seeing them?

Thanks so much!

Hammerheads in the Philipines
by: Scubidoo

Hello,
i dove doljo and Cabilao in jan. 1998, and there were schools of hammerheads there.

Always 5 to 10 School members, but only one would come close to check us out... Many early Morning dives until mid Feb.

Now they are all fished out!

In the Cebu Straight between Cebu and Bohol they traweled overnight more than 200 pieces back in 2001.

The Sea there is more than empty. Shame on Humans !!!

Over fishing and habitat loss are a Huge problem in the Philippines, I was there last year and dove 29 times, never saw a shark, bummer.

Hammerhead Sharks

Hi,

Hammerheads are seasonal to the Philippines, usually around January to April.

One of the most consistent places to see them is Malapascua Island off the northern tip of Cebu.

Malapascua Island is world renown for year round sightings of Thresher Sharks, so you may not see Hammerheads during your trip, but you will definitely see Threshers. But then again, mother nature is full of surprises!

Good luck and enjoy your trip, let me know if you have any other questions...
