From good to bad experience manila zoo

by William

Never been to the zoo in Manila, Philippines, I'm from the US and my wife said it would be a nice experience.

So yesterday we went to the zoo with her nephew. Long story short, the beginning of the zoo was nice with the elephant and the snakes.

Once we walked through the tunnel and around the turtles, we came across a alligator area. Two we're inside, one in the water and the other on top in the grass/dirt area. They are very big and appeared to be sleeping. Before I knew it, a zookeeper opened the gate in the rear and brought a very long bamboo stick/pole with a large nail at the end. The reaction of the alligator was apparent, it was ready to strike soon as it saw him.

Then, that's when the bad experience began, he took the bamboo stick/pole and began hitting the alligator over the head, blood I saw was already there from a obvious earlier beating. He continued beating the alligator and more blood began to drip and flow from it's head.

After about 10 times, I looked at my wife and said we have to leave, I couldn't take this kind of punishment toward any animal or beast.

Needless to say, I will not be back for a visit to watch the horrific act again.

Just one question, why did you chose to leave instead of taking an action? why not approach the care taker who beats the alligator and tell him to stop.

i agree with this site. its really a horrific act of beating a crocodile with a bamboo stick that has a nail.

i think, this is really the attitude of many Filipinos. that is why Philippines is not improving as compared to other Asian countries.

That is what they called "ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES". what a country is this?

What a shameful attitude is that.

So sad to hear this
by: Hanna

I've been to Manila Zoo a long time ago and it's so sad to hear or read articles like this. I hope they can do something about this issue. :(
