Travel to La Union whats the best way to get here?
Travel to La UnionThere are several ways to travel to San Juan La Union. It all depends on where your point of origin is.
Basically, it is accessible by air, land and sea. Located around 270 kilometres (San Fernando City) away from Manila, travel to La Union province is made convenient by the fact that it is connected with the rest of Luzon by an extensive network of roads.
From Manila, travel to La Union province takes about 7 to 8 hours. If you start your journey off from Angeles City, the journey will takes even less, just 4 hours with the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx).
From Baguio with the famous Kennon Road, travel to La Union province takes roughly an hour.
Travel to San Juan La Union – by Air
The Laoag International Airport in Ilocos Norte is the main gateway for air travel in Region 1.
There are international flights from cities like Taiwan, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Hence, La Union is also accessible by air with flights on Asian Spirit Airlines, Cebu Pacific Airlines and Mandarin Airlines (Kaohsiung).
The previous Wallace Airbase which has been designated by the Philippines Air Transportation Office as a secondary airport to the Laoag International Airport, also serves the La Union province with flights from Manila on Asian Spirit airlines.
Travel to San Juan La Union – by Bus
However, the cheapest way and most convenient way to travel to La Union in my opinion would be by bus.
Unless, you know the roads well, self drive won’t be easy as the road signs in the Philippines aren’t that clear. With buses, there are daily trips from Manila, Angeles City and Baguio and the fare is quite reasonable.
From Manila, the 7 hour trip will set you back 380php (around $8.50 at the time of writing). All these buses are air conditioned and are quite comfortable. But if you find riding on a bus for 7 hours a torturous idea, you can always opt for a private van hire or SUV with a driver. This will set you back around 8K php just to travel to Pangasinan. La Union province being further away, will definitely cost more.
