Mermaid Resort Puerto Galera is far enough away.....The Mermaid Resort Puerto Galera is a couple of blocks back from the beach, which also means it is away from the noise of Sabang. Which is a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you are after. 
I was a bit put off by the location of the Mermaid Diver Resort at first. It is not beach side or should I say waterside and the location although central to everything, seemed a bit out of the way. All my reservations about its location were soon dispelled once the sun disappeared behind the ocean. Sabang can be quite lively at night and as much as I enjoy having fun and the odd cold san miguel, I also enjoy my sleep and quiet time. This is where the benefit of the Mermaid Resort Puerto Galera's location really hits home. I remember finishing my last san miguel, well almost last and thinking, how am I going to get to sleep here. There are so many hotels right in the heart of Sabang that I wonder how anyone can get to sleep. Being a light sleeper there would be no way in the world I would be able to get to sleep, unless I had maybe a few too many..... 
Entering the Mermaid Resort Puerto Galera is via a pathway and a wall made of cobblestones, which leads directly to the reception area. To the left and over the cobblestone wall is the swimming pool. To the side of the reception area is the dining come bar area with a pool table for those who enjoy a quiet game of stick. What stuck me the most was how clean everything was, I guess you get use to seeing dirt and grime on buildings in the Philippines, but here you could tell someone was passionate about the image of there hotel, nothing wrong with pride! 
The rooms have everything I needed and a lot more, even though I don't really need a lot, guys tend not to need as much or be as fussy as women, no offence intended here just my personal observations and experiences. I better move on before I get into troube! The rooms were larger than average, had a mini-bar, TV with heaps of channels care of cable, there is also along side your drinks a cache of snacks for your midnight munchies. Another nice little touch. Now if you are having a lazy afternoon at home, you also have the option of watch a DVD from the Mermaid Resorts DVD library without leaving the comfort of your own room! br>Even though there are some great restaurants in Sabang, the Mermaid Dive Resort has a fantastic local chef. The pride that is obvious with the cleanliness of the resort is filtered down to the kitchen and is enthusiastically carried on and bettered in the kitchen. The food is will set your taste buds alive! Do try a curry, you will be impressed. One thing you do not want to miss out on is, diving in Puerto Galera. Diving is the reason why so many people come to Sabang.
